PHASE

What isn't stored can't be stolen

PHASE website
What it is

For: Deep-tech investors, research labs working on hardware security, and partners who need a root of trust that does not depend on a stored key.

Most security still rests on a key that sits somewhere, waiting to be found. PHASE removes the stored key: each time it is needed, the key is re-derived from a physical response of the device, held only briefly in volatile registers, then cleared. There is nothing at rest to extract.

The digital half is built. Readout, key reconstruction and device attestation are implemented and pass their automated test suite in simulation, from raw measurement to a reconstructed 128-bit key. A critical bug in the project's own security core was found and fixed before any outside review.

The physics is the open question, and PHASE says so. Whether each physical device answers uniquely and stably enough across temperature has not been measured yet; these are design targets, not results. The pass/fail thresholds are written down before the test runs: if the physics does not meet them, the project stops.

PHASE is based in Munich, with the company in formation and founded by Riaan Kleynhans. Patent applications are being prepared with counsel, so technical detail is shared under NDA.

Munich

Company in formation

What it does

01

No secret at rest: the key is re-derived from a physical response at each use and cleared afterwards

02

Full digital chain from raw measurement to a reconstructed 128-bit key, implemented and tested in simulation

03

Device attestation implemented alongside key reconstruction

04

Pre-registered failure criteria: pass/fail thresholds fixed before the physical tests run

05

Plain statement of what is proven and what is open, on the public site

Architecture

How we architected it

  • Hardware root of trust
  • Device attestation
  • Simulation-verified digital core
  • Next.js
  • Vercel
  1. 01

Digital core: readout, key reconstruction and device attestation, verified by an automated test suite in simulation

  2. 02

Physical layer: the device whose response the key is derived from; characterisation is the subject of the current round

  3. 03

Key material lives only in volatile registers for the moment of use

  4. 04

Public site on Next.js, hosted on Vercel, in English and German; detail beyond the public overview is shared under NDA
